A Sydney farewell isn’t complete without the ultimate High Tea experience, which I was lucky enough to enjoy at Hydro Majestic in the Blue Mountains.

Served in the Wintergarden with panoramic views overlooking the Megalong Valley, this is one of Australia’s most iconic historical hotels. In fact, my friend’s mum remembers this being the go-to honeymoon destination back in the day and I can see why — it’s very vintage glam!

The Wintergarden is an elegant room with high ceilings, white tablecloths and fine bone china, with a classical pianist playing in the background. We got a fantastic table next to the floor to ceiling window, overlooking the valley. Look at that view!

The service was a little slow (I think they forgot about us…), but eventually, we were able to grab their attention and order the Wintergarden High Tea.  This was served on a three-tiered silver stand and included petit pastries, a selection of finger sandwiches, as well as freshly baked scones with homemade jam and fresh clotted cream. Our group favourite item was the coconut and passionate mouse — delicious 😋.

There’s also the option to enjoy an Eastern High Tea if you prefer dumplings, rice paper rolls and soft tacos, and there are Gluten Free, Vegetarian and Kids options too. 

Afterwards, we wandered the beautiful grounds, which made the perfect backdrop for our group photos. The afternoon finished where all good trips should, at the gift store — a really great one actually, should you need to stock up on gifts.
