Every six months or so, I feel an intense longing to be outdoors — to sit around a campfire, sleep in a tent, and wake up in the fresh air with a stove-made cup of tea. Must be my Girl Guiding years deeply ingrained into me. Even if it’s just for one night, the experience completely re-sets me, and the opportunity to explore somewhere new is a bonus.

Queensland road trip: Brisbane to Agnes Water
As I entered my third trimester, we wanted to plan a ‘babymoon’ for a final adventure before the baby was born. Staying at The Langham in Melbourne, the original plan was a winter getaway. I wanted to wrap up warm, walk the city streets and parks, enjoy a luxury hotel, maybe catch a show, and eat my body weight in treats. But, with the borders closing again due to Covid, it was not meant to be and the entire trip was cancelled a couple of days before.

After our Kangaroo Valley camping trip at Easter, I’ve been counting down the winter months, waiting for Spring to show its sunny head. What I love most about the October long-weekend (aside from the 3 days off work), is the season shift that comes with the Daylight Saving clock change.
