Button Bar

If you’re bar hopping in Surry Hills, Button Bar is well worth the stop.

Tucked away on Foveaux Street, this pirate ship themed bar is deliberately hidden with only a small sign to signify that you’re at the right place.

Nevertheless, once you’re inside, its dim lighting and the unique interior is warm and inviting. The scattered barrels, anchors, and wooden walls with hanging rope are just some of the minute details that add to the cosy atmosphere.

There is a long wooden table that runs along the middle for shared seating, as well as leather booths at the back to sit groups of up to 6-8 people. If you’re after a booth on the weekend, I recommend booking one in advance as they fill up quickly.

Two bonus points for this ship are the free bowls of pistachios, and their speciality cocktail of home infused spiced rum & freshly pressed pear juice.

Button Bar has an impressive list of unusual cocktails, and I’ve made a mental note to return on a winter evening for their special made mulled wine. If you’re having trouble deciding which drink to choose, the staff will happily point you in the right direction.

This place isn’t designed for a proper dinner out, but it does offer cheap and tasty pizzas to accompany your drinks. And, on Mondays and Tuesdays, you can grab a beer and pizza combo for just $10.

Button Bar is within walking distance from Central station and is perfect for inner-city after-dinner drinks.
